Big Bash
Elon Musk’s Verified Insanity
By now we’ve all heard of the new Chief Twit. Elon’s Musk first big project at Twitter is to start charging $20 a month for verification. The team building the feature was told they would all be fired if they don’t meet the launch deadline of November 7th.
Nadella’s Shrinking Paycheck
Microsoft targeted a 73% growth rate for GamePass as part of performance incentives for CEO Satya Nadella and other top executives. The service only achieved 28% growth. This is the second year in a row it missed its target.
We think he’ll be alright though - for the 12 months ending June 30, 2022, Nadella was awarded $55 million in cash and stock compensation.
TikTok isn’t here to play:
TikTok is making a dedicated push into gaming, its first venture into a different entertainment format. Gaming is an extremely lucrative entertainment category and Tiktok is following Netflix’s lead. This move is the opposite of rivals Snapchat and Facebook, which are winding down their gaming platforms.
Twitch Rebellion:
The mood at TwitchCon earlier this month was noticeably tense. Streamers were angry about Twitch reducing fan subscription revenue from 70% to 50%. Additionally, streamers argue that Twitch executives are trying to persuade them into displaying ads, which they believe will repel their users.
However, Twitch argues they have made several changes to appeal to streamers in recent months, including giving them a greater cut of ad revenue, letting them broadcast on rival platforms, and lowering the amount of money they are required to earn on the site before they can cash out.
